Living my dream as a kickass norn in a virtual world
I'm a sucker for RPGs. Most recently, I got back into Guild Wars 2, an MMORPG. And because I love the art style they have going on, I figured I could try to make my norn guardian character, Rinas. Obviously in the game's art style. Or at least something that resembles it. To make this post a bit more interesting, I decided to include a video about my process! Though most of it is just me fumbling around, because I still haven't managed to figure out a clear workflow for myself, especially with coloring.
Process video, yay!
There's still some stuff that's bothering me a bit, but I figured I'd never finish this because I'm just endlessly looking for mistakes. At first my plan was to try out gradient maps for coloring, which just arrived on Procreate on the latest update. I struggled with them too much so I just went with a couple of layers on different blending modes. Doing this ...sort of a study, I guess, actually helped me get a somewhat satisfying result with the workflow of applying colors on top of a grayscale image.
Aaand here are the end results, I couldn't decide if I liked the completely colored version better or the partly grayscale one, so here's both.

So badass... Love the process video, it's nice to see how others work. And figuring out your coloring process is indeed very hard. I can't decide on which version is better either, they're both amazing!! I like the fierce eyes and mouth. <3
